Ignore a time period or a segment

How to exclude data from being used in the analysis

2 min read

All data on the platform is divided into segments. This means that your analytics on baseload, peak, activity, etc. are based on segments.

A segment is a period of time where the state has not changed. What it specifically means depends on the energy type and the analysis. For example, in the electricity analysis, a change in condition could mean that the ventilation system in the building has had its operating time changed and has now started to ventilate at night. Our analysis will capture this change and show it as two segments. One segment for normal ventilation operation and a new segment for ventilation with the new operation.

Therefore, a segment does not have a specific length, this will vary and follow your consumption, and the segments will be different depending on which energy type you are looking at. The segments can also vary, depending on whether you are looking at baseload, peak, or another analysis within the same energy type.

On the graphs, you can see the segments based on the average value. When the average (peak, baseload, mean) line moves level, a new segment starts.

If you click on the graph next to a segment, you will get details for each segment. You will see the time interval over which the segment runs, the average level of energy consumption, a status compared to the previous segment and the total annual consumption at the segment level.

Ignore a segment or specific period

If you know that there has been consumption during a period of time that is not representative of normal consumption, such as during construction or other events, you can choose to ignore this. There are two ways you can ignore data. In the consumption overview for each energy source, you can ignore a specific time period. If you drag the courser over the consumption, you can then choose to ignore the data. This will affect all analysis of this energy source. Give the system a moment and the analysis will be updated. You can also ignore a segment on the individual analysis. Clicking on the segment below will allow it to be ignored. When you ignore a segment, it will no longer be considered in the analysis and the analysis will be recalculated.
