To receive the water alarms most relevant to you and ensure quick attention to any water leaks or unusually high water consumption in your building, you can update the water alarm settings to suit your needs.
If you receive hourly data from water meters, you can set individual alarm thresholds. In this article, we review how you can configure the three available settings:
1. Global Settings – Alarm Based on Historical Data
The global water alarm setting uses an algorithm that analyzes the building’s historical water consumption. The algorithm looks at historical consumption patterns and automatically sets an alarm threshold, which alerts you if consumption deviates from what is expected, based on the external parameters always used in Ento’s analyses.
These will be your default settings if you take no action.
This setting is useful if you don’t have specific consumption limits in mind but want to be alerted to abnormal consumption based on the building’s historical data.
2. Fixed Alarm Threshold for All Buildings – Alarm Based on Consumption Above a Fixed Limit
This setting allows you to set a specific water consumption limit, where you will receive an alarm if consumption exceeds this limit during the baseload period.
How to update your threshold:
- Go to: Settings → Advisors → Water
- Update the threshold to the level at which you want to receive alarms
- Click Update
This method is ideal if you want full control over what is considered acceptable consumption and want to be alerted if the building’s baseload water consumption becomes disproportionately high.
3. Individual Threshold for Each Building – Customized Consumption Alarm
With this setting, you can set an individual water consumption limit for each building, based on the same principles described in point 2. This is useful if you want to customize alarm settings for each building based on specific needs or usage patterns.
You must have set a fixed limit as described in point 2 before you can activate an individual limit.
How to update individual limits:
- Select the desired building in the system
- Go to your Water Advisor
- Under your baseload potential, update the specific baseload threshold for this building
- You can set the time period during which this threshold applies
- An alarm is triggered if consumption is above the threshold for the entire selected time period
This allows you to tailor alarm levels specifically for each building, which is useful if different buildings have different water consumption patterns.
Summary
Choosing the right setting for your baseload water alarms depends on your specific needs and preferences. Here’s a quick overview of the three options:
- Global settings – Automatic alarm based on historical consumption
- Fixed alarm baseload threshold – Alarm when consumption exceeds a specific fixed level for all buildings
- Individual baseload threshold – Alarm when consumption in a specific building exceeds an individually set limit
Note: These settings can only be configured if you receive hourly data.
If you receive hourly data but it is only sent once a day or less frequently, we therefore analyze the data once per day, this will mean that alarms will be a little delayed.
If you want to upgrade your alarms so that data is received and analyzed once an hour, contact your account manager or reach us at support@ento.ai.
